Today’s Google Doodle recognizes Ignaz Semmelweis and handwashing. Ignaz Semmelweis, who was a doctor, has been widely attributed as the first person to discover the medical benefits of hand washing. The Google doodle is displaying a video of how to properly wash your hands. In 1847, on this day, Ignaz Semmelweis was honoured and appointed as Chief Resident in the maternity clinic of the Vienna General Hospital. He demonstrated that requiring doctors to disinfect their hands vastly reduced the transmission of disease. It may be mentioned that in view of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis across the globe, today’s Doodle follows the official guidelines on how to properly wash your hands from the World Health Organization.
