Forrest recounts his military service in Vietnam. He describes his living conditions as well as his group’s objective: to find Charlie.

This clip can be used to teach about the Vietnam War and the geography of Vietnam. Forrest mentions that his platoon is looking for “Charlie,” which is a nickname for the Viet Cong, the North Vietnamese army. The frequent stops his platoon makes reveals the jungle war tactics of the Viet Cong. Forrest describes the climate of Vietnam as rainy, as it rained for several months straight, and his walk illustrates the different types of terrain, such as dense forests and tropical lowlands, he had to endure.
