La Soufriere, which is located on the island of St. Vincent in the nation St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), began erupting explosively at 8:41 AM this morning. Ash plumes up to 8 km high have been reported. The volcano had started erupting effusively in December, 2020, but the current eruption had not turned explosive until today. Evacuations around La Soufrière volcano were ordered yesterday due to the possibility of an explosive eruption.
