Musk was charged with securities fraud in September 2018 for "misleading" tweets dating back to his now-famous "funding secured" post for a Tesla buyout.

The contentious In a settlement with the SEC, Musk and Tesla each paid $20 million in civil fines. Tesla's chairman, Elon Musk, was compelled to resign.
